A LIFE UPDATE

For a brief time, I thought Boston could be my forever-home. I moved here under the pretense of a two-month sublet. I wasn't sure what was going to happen after. I had an old friend and some new ones scattered about the city, and we got coffee, went on movie dates, grabbed drinks. My internship had the potential to turn into something longer. I had looked at studio apartments on Coolidge Corner. I was ready to un-cancel my gym membership.

There's so much to love about this city. It's clean and green. It's quiet. Soon-to-be moms walk down the street in Lululemon leggings with Yoga mats slung over their shoulders. City streets turn swiftly into neighborhoods with tree-lined sidewalks where kids straight out of a Nora Ephron movie ride bikes with knee pads and helmets. There are a lot of very friendly dogs.

But, as you may have noticed, I am not a soon-to-be-mom, a little kid or (sadly) a dog. A lot of my time here has involved wishing I was a little bit older, or much, much younger. Boston, for all of its battered book stores and late night burgers eaten with good friends, is not the place where I can be entirely me, just as I am. I need to make a few mistakes first.

Boston, I'll be back some day I'm sure. New York City, I'll see you August 1st.

  1. So are you moving to NY? There is something so calming about soon-to-be moms walking with yoga mats and being entirely consent with the state they are in - i hope someday I'll be just like that. Now I'm a big mess.

    1. I am!! I know, I'm sad to leave it. But I think if there's any time to be a big mess, it's now.

  2. That's so inspiring^: "If there's any time to be a big mess, it's now." I stumbled on your blog after reading your article about feminist yearbook quotes on Hello Giggles. I wish you well on your journey!

I have a feeling you would enjoy this quote, so I'll leave it with you:
"We are the music makers, And we are the dreamers of dreams, Wandering by lone sea-breakers, And sitting by desolate streams;- World-losers and world-forsakers, On whom the pale moon gleams: Yet we are the movers and shakers Of the world for ever, it seems" --Arthur O'Shaughnessy, "Ode", 1874
